Bonjour a tous! For this weekly update I will have, as usual, images of this week's meals and such. This week, I don't think that I did much outside of the usual. Thursday, I went to a high school , Le Rebours, to assist the french students with their English. They are taking an exam soon and they have to work on their oral English. The students were preparing statements of what they did during their internships. The exam that they are taking will require them to present their situation, their training, in English and also think on the spot in English. In the beginning of the session, students from St. John's introduced themselves to the students and the students introduced themselves and told us about their situation- what they did on their internships. Afterwards, we were supposed to choose the students that we wanted to work with. I couldn't decide whom I wanted to work with. However, I noticed a girl across from me, name Emma trying to get my attention, So I chose her and another student Anais chose me. When I asked them why, they told me because I spoke French, meaning I could translate their French back into English for them. It was so funny, because I was talking to their teacher Michaud about my studies in French. So when we came in the class, she would ask a question in English and I would respond in French and we spoke about my studies in French for about a minute. The girls were so surprised They automatically assumed that none of us spoke French. It was so cute. "Ah! Quelle bon accent!" Haha. Before I go on , I should explain the education system in France because it's not what we are used to in the States. In France, high school starts from 9th grade straight to Freshman year of college, hence some of the students are about 19-21. Furthermore, somewhere around sophomore year in high school (lycee) , the students decide which career path they want, and from there on, they prep. There's a pro and con to this system I believe. A pro is that an early stage the students focus their energies on a career path and work on it. Many of them are knowledgeable of that field and determined. Unlike myself, I'm about to graduate in a few months with not a clue with what direction I want to go into life. I'm so unprepared for the next step- graduate school. Makes me feel like a slacker , last year of undergrad without a clue where I'm going into ,while these students are so focused on their chosen career path. Nevertheless, this system has its flaws. For example, if these students don't pass these exams and gain admission into the top schools, there really isn't a plan B. Whereas, back at home, you can change your major at least three times in college. Yet, with the so much leg room, there are generations of clueless adults produced. At any rate, I had such a great time with the girls because they were able to help me with some French while I helped them with English. I definitely will going back. A la prochaine! Stay tuned, stay tasty- Cocoabelle <3
Dinner Monday- Friday
Lundi- Turkey sausage with a potato and cheese dish. Salad on the side.
Mardi- Stew Beef and Tagliatelle pasta
Jeudi- Rice with a Japanese fish dish. This is the first time we had this dish and it wasn't bad. Just different. I forgot the name of the fish but it has the same texture as imitation crab meat that's in crab sticks. I think that is what they most likely use in the crab sticks because it smells and tastes exactly the same. For dessert we had almond cookies and chocolate moose that was so rich I only ate a little bit.

Vendredi- Broccoli soup and tuna ( thon) salad. This is not the usual tuna salad that is made with tuna and mayo. Tuna Salad ingredients: tuna, rice, boiled eggs, peas, corn, green olives, red peppers, and vinaigrette dressing. Now, while reading the ingredients it sounds pretty disgusting But it was really good, it was light but fulling at the same time. Leah and I were happy that we had soup and salad for dinner because we had eaten an heavy lunch earlier. For dessert, our host mom used the moose from the previous night and made a cake with my favorite sweet addition------> Chantilly. Translation- Whipped Cream!!!!
